Contact Wires are a critical component in overhead line electrification (OLE) systems, commonly used in railway,& Metro  networks. A grooved contact wire is a type of overhead conductor with a longitudinal groove running along its length. The groove allows for clamping and suspension without interfering with the wire's contact surface. Typically made from high-conductivity materials like hard-drawn copper or copper alloys (e.g., copper-silver or copper-magnesium), grooved wires combine durability, high tensile strength, and good electrical conductivity. This groove allows for the attachment of dropper wires and mechanical fittings without damaging the contact surface.
Standard sizes vary, with 107 mm² and 150 mm² & 193mm wires commonly used in heavy rail applications.
